Who doesn’t like to travel and step away from everyday life? As senior adults, we need to prepare to have a successful outcome! Senior citizens may face travel restrictions, such as age limits for car renting, medical certification requirements, and additional airport security screening. However, there is no age limit for international travel.Â

Age limits for car rentalsÂ
In some European countries, there are age limits for renting cars. For example, in Greece and Ireland, the age limit is 75, and in Portugal, it is 80.
Medical certification requirementsÂ
Cruises and long-haul flights may require a medical certification or fitness to travel form.
You may need to complete a fitness to travel form within 7 to 14 days of travel.
You may need documentation to bring many medications through customs.
Additional airport security screeningÂ
Travelers 75 and older may be eligible for expedited screening at the airport.
You may be able to keep your jacket and shoes on, but you may need to remove your shoes if the alarm sounds.
If you are unable to stand, you may be able to request to be seated during screening.
If you have medical devices, you may need to alert the TSA agent so they can use alternative screening methods.
Other travel considerations
Be aware of food poisoning when trying new foods.Â
If you are traveling to areas where malaria is present, discuss your risk with a healthcare professional.Â
Wear a mask, wash your hands often, and avoid close contact with others.
